Maiden offshore voyage for ACIS thanks to TrustFord Channel Islands

Deal extends UK-wide contract with world's largest Ford dealer group
ACIS has made its maiden offshore voyage with a deal to service the TrustFord Group’s Channel Island dealerships.

The new arrangement is an extension of the UK-wide contract ACIS has in place with TrustFord, the world's largest dedicated Ford dealer group.

TrustFord owns 65 UK-wide dealerships, with ACIS supplying 13 Ford-approved accident repair centres from Northern Ireland down to the Channel Islands.

Due to its compact road network, bumps and scrapes are an occupational hazard on the Channel Islands, which means that TrustFord repairs around 250 cars per month between its two bodyshops.

However, just-in-time delivery to the Channel Islands is not without its challenges as ACIS shareholder member Waregrain and TrustFord have to plan even further ahead to ensure stock integrity.

Frequently inclement weather can impact on bodyshop stock crossing the channel, which is where ASCRIBE, ACIS’s web-based stock ordering management system, comes into its own, as well as cutting average spend by 20 per cent through efficiency savings.

ACIS also has to ensure flammable and non-flammable materials are separated at the quayside for customs and safety purposes, another factor which can delay deliveries or potentially dent customer confidence, if not handled correctly.

It is thanks to ACIS’s new web portal, of which ASCRIBE is a fundamental part, that TrustFord can manage its paint and consumables both in and out, view its purchases by site and maintain employee training records, all at the click of a button.

The system recognises in advance when a technician needs re-accreditation, or when a piece of equipment needs re-calibration and prompts the bodyshop manager ahead of time.

Graham O’Neill, CEO of ACIS, said: “Working on small islands such as Jersey and Guernsey can provide a logistical challenge for bodyshops. Like everyone else, they need to manage their stock of paint and consumables without running out. Add into this the lead time of shipping to the islands and you potentially have a problem.

“It’s in a scenario like this where ASCRIBE really comes into its own. It is working fantastically well for us here and demonstrates the power and efficiency of the product.”

Richard Crawley, National Bodyshop Support Manager for TrustFord, said: “Working offshore from the UK mainland provides us with a unique challenge with regards to stock levels, and we’ve been impressed with how ASCRIBE has helped us overcome this.

“It’s an extension of what first attracted us to ACIS – an ability to reduce costs, improve efficiency and offer a better service to our customers.”
